The Unwedded Widow
The Unwedded Widow The freezing rain Fell upon her face As she stood alone Ageist the world around Thinking of the oneWhom she never had met Ravished and torn away, Silence looming deep inside Concealing memories, Which haunted her mind Looking down upon The gravestone below, Thoughts of the fallen Flashed within her mindSearching for a young man She had never even known A voice filled her head, And whispered inside, This must be he, For I knew not his name Nor I knew not of his deeds But he lay’s right before me, A mighty marine As she stood there to morn, She viewed all a round, Not a single person was there To grieve upon this ground They lay here to rest Within this beautiful field, Brave men and women Who gave up their lives So that I would be, free She knows some where out On the battlefield he still looms Hoping that one day He will be home soon.
