A Second Kind Of Love
A Second Kind Of Love
(Grieving A Lost Son)
There is a first kind of loving,
Full of joy,
And bright tomorrows,
Promises upon promises,
A future full,
Of new intimacies,
Anticipating what will be.
But sometimes when this love is,
At its deepest,
You cry at the thought,
Of its absence,
For love that is come,
Can only go.
There is a second kind of loving,
Full of tears,
Empty tomorrows,
Memories upon memories,
A future full,
Of new could have beens,
Yearning for what was.
But sometimes when this love is,
At its deepest,
You rejoice at the thought,
Of its return,
For love that is gone,
Can only come again.
So why, I ask you friend,
Does my second kind of love,
Seem so perverse,
Those who've only known
The first?
