40's Swing

‘40’s Swing !

Get down and
let’s boogey to the swing
that does that special “ thing”:
slide ,turn and glide
across the floor
let your body free
jump to the drum beat
girate, bump and grind
Oh, my!
Shake your booty
show me what you got
Ouch !
your mamma and papa did no wrong!!
There ain’t no maybe, baby
Pull back the rugs
Play that 40s song
And let’s dance

hubba- hubba brudda!

hubba- hubba brudda!

any particular band you were listening to...actually, or remembering?
I really like Artie Shaw, although it's hard to pick a favorite. there were so many great bands, great musicians, great singers and composers.

the energy, those rhythms, the joy
I think you got the swinging boogie woogie aspects into this poem.

I have the big band/swing station on all day long on cable tv..... they scroll the artists (band and singers) info
which is nice ...memory being what it is....forever forgetting!

I enjoyed the refreshment1

I have SIRIUS playing the 40's music. Wrote this while listening to Bennie Goodman followed by Glen Miller, Yowza, yowza, I used to "jive" to those tunein the 40',and at 5 was the wonder boy at weddings.I stll got that "thing"--about the only "thing" that gets me off my wheelchair--and man,can I boogey!

Where did the time go?

Ohhh...you swinging cat you!

Love it...so upbeat and happy. Love Art Shaw's music...joyous and let's face it, the world needed that kind of buzz during those horrible war years.

Thanks, going to dig out my sax and puff out a few swing tunes!

Totally agree!

This poem made me smile - someone else in neopoet made a comment that we (poets in general) often write gloomy stuff and I interpret that as the big themes (death/dying/love/despair - gosh it goes on!) . Such a relief when a poem is such a happy, movement entity in it's own right. Really liked this.

Joe

I hope you have speed wheels on that chair.
A vision of you there with wheels on a Zimmer frame giving it shit, made me smile a lot.
I know we are 50's and 60's people, where the sound was thrown miles for us young ones to gyrate to.
Great piece of life there Joe, Yours Ian.T
