Anzac mourn

Soft shuffles in the still shadows
sound beneath solemn postures.
We stand in unison,
surrounded by an aura of profound sadness,
as all, silently, await the rise of sun.

And back over there, in the past, somewhere,
not ready for battle, adventure bound,
young diggers with guns, and eyes that show fear,
wait for the order to storm Turkish ground.
At oh what carnage, and at oh what cost,
while, back home, both mother and wife gravely pray
for boys in a battle that's already lost,
as the sun dawns, blood red, over Suvla Bay.

Today, at rising, with love and regret,
to the monument's silhouette
it will send golden rays,
that will gently kiss words, in enduring stone, set -
the Ode to Remembrance - Lest We Forget.

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

A lovely write for the brave men,
There isn't much to add to their memory,
Only that for what they gave, we can now have.
Bless them all, Yours Ian
