Awestruck By Nature(May Contest)

Old dusty roads in dappled light
coming through newly awakened trees

The sweetness of clover, alfalfa and hay
permeates the air
borne on a warm spring breeze
Birds nesting in the most amazing places
while tiny eggs are warmed by mothers breast

I'm awestruck by a morning sunrise
bright red orb of light
not to be outdone
by the beauty of a sunset

Late at night, when all is quiet
I listen to the owls, crickets and frogs
watching the bats hard at work feeding

Is there anything more beautiful than nature?
at any time of day
life is good and I am here to live it

Hi Lynn, lovely poem, so true

Hi Lynn, lovely poem, so true. With our isolation, all of Nature is blossoming, birds and other creatures, day and night, are returning to their usual activities. Your poem reminds me of my childhood on our farm. All those sounds were my daily companions. I remember looking out at the full moon from my bedroom window. The dogs would houl at it.
Humankind is the most destructive animal of all. Sad, isn't it?

Excellent...

I could smell and taste the dust in the air and the clover, alfalfa and grasses turning to hay. One thing I would look at is the second line. I think that rather than giving the impression that the light is coming from the trees, a change could be made to
[coming through] newly awakened trees? ~ Geezer.
