Beautiful soul

A wondrous soul
whose smile embraces you
warming
like the radiant rays of the sun
A soul that greets all
like a lifelong friend
thrilled to visit with
again, and again
An optimistic soul
even in an unkind world
spreading joy
like jam on bread
Savoring
the delightfully kind flavor
A soul that finds grandeur
in simple things
A gaze that finds beauty
in all that it views
A soul whose lips
never utter an unkind word
encourages and brightens
even on an ordinary day
A soul whose wisdom
is imparted in a gentle, nurturing way
whose inspiration
guides and strengthens you
while you stay
A soul who makes you a believer
that life is good
I wonder if she knows...
owner of a breathtakingly beautiful soul

About This Poem

Last Few Words: Written about the woman who led a writer's group in my community and inspired me to write. Forever grateful to Hildy. She did get to see this poem I wrote about her before she passed away, which I am happy to say because I wanted Hildy to know how I felt about her. God bless her beautiful soul.

Neopoet AI (premium) [2025-04]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem presents a portrait of an idealized, compassionate individual, employing a series of metaphors and similes to convey warmth and positivity. The structure is free verse, with short lines and frequent enjambment, which creates a gentle, flowing rhythm that mirrors the subject’s kindness.

The language is accessible and direct, relying on familiar imagery: “radiant rays of the sun,” “spreading joy / like jam on bread,” and “savoring / the delightfully kind flavor.” These comparisons are straightforward and evoke comfort, though the reliance on common phrases and similes risks sentimentality and predictability. The metaphor of spreading joy like jam on bread is effective in its homeliness, but it may benefit from further development or a more original twist to avoid cliché.

The poem’s repetition of “soul” as the organizing motif provides cohesion, but the frequent use of the word can become redundant. Consider varying the language or employing concrete actions or scenes that illustrate the qualities described, rather than listing attributes. For example, instead of stating “A soul whose lips / never utter an unkind word,” showing a moment of kindness or restraint in dialogue could offer greater emotional impact.

The poem’s tone is earnest and admiring, but the lack of tension or complexity may limit its resonance. Introducing a specific memory, a moment of doubt, or a subtle flaw could add depth and make the subject more relatable. The closing lines, “I wonder if she knows... / owner of a breathtakingly beautiful soul,” introduce a note of reflection, but the ellipsis and direct address risk sentimentality. Sharpening this ending—perhaps by grounding it in a concrete image or unanswered question—could provide a more powerful conclusion.

Overall, the poem effectively communicates admiration and warmth, but it would benefit from more specific imagery, varied language, and the introduction of complexity or narrative to deepen its emotional impact.
