Blue On Beige

I am bewitched by this hour of day
when the sun lays low in the sky
and the glass bottle in my west window
spills its warm blueness
onto the living room wall -
brilliant color marrying soft beige

I am quiet in this moment
as my breathing couples
with the sound of the second-hand
of my grandmother's clock
and I accept that time ages me
even as the shadows grow deeper
until blue and beige blend into
one another, sleepy from the sunset

I start to pull the shade
then hesitate, waiting
until the last glow of day
spreads itself so thin, we all but
disappear

A beautiful moment...

that I understand well. There are certain things about life that cannot be explained; like the special moments of the day, when we are captured by the beauty of all life and the passing of time. You have written about such a time. Well done my lady,
~Geezer.

Hello, Geezer,

So much of poetry is in movement, but there is poetry also in the still life around us. This felt like a still life painting as I noticed the blue reflection cast onto the wall and listened to my grandmother's old clock.
Thank you!

Hello, Tim,

I'm so glad it spoke to you. You are right, there is beauty in common simplicity. Sadly, sometimes those moments are lost.
Thank you!
