CANARIES SING

CANARIES SING

When hearing resistance is futile
There’s a surfeit of overconfidence
By those with pride who threaten
It’s just part of a recurring pattern
As sympathy submits to diffidence
And mentality becomes so infantile

Perhaps believing they’re clever
A distorted sense of dominance
When superiority seems earned
All rule books are long burned
When power comes to prominence
But no position will last forever

Dirty jobs often offered a reward
Of wielding and abusing, control
Pleasure in pain of a broken mind
Leaving common humanity behind
But for most it’s a short-lived role
To both live and die by the sword

But when suffering becomes acute
Recipients of torture and pressure
With no answer, will take the hit
Each denial hurts more than a bit
See those eyes glint with pleasure
But the true value gained is moot

This is just...

vague enough to warrant the accusation of it being a moot point. It could be about most anything. I suspect that it is political but without a specific target [even a hint], there doesn't seem to be much point. If I take it that it is about my favorite political
enemy, then I can say that you are one hundred percent right, he is a canary singing as he dies. ~ Geezer.

Yes,...

I could fathom an idea about this piece. It has a political connotation. Those in political positions should have this at the back of their minds; power is ephemeral. Nothing last forever!

Good job!
