Comfort and Joy

Now rest ye, earthly gentle beings
The Universe is wise
She looks upon us with a Love
That neither feigns nor dies
Though in our arrogance we fall
In bitter compromise
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
She will comfort us with tidings of joy

So rest ye, mortal gentle beings
Our Earth is with us still
Though we have plundered in the dark
Her heart brings us Goodwill
And with her Never-Ending Hope
To nurture and fulfill
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
She will consummate good tidings of joy

So shall we rest, we fallen beings
In Peace and Quietude
Delivered from our ignorance
Of each profit pursued
And be well pleased with what we have
Our thankfulness renewed
With tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
Oh, may we rest in comfort and joy

I'm loving

The female pronouns

They feel like an ode

You write so well, always, without fail

Hi Lavender, I thought your poem was wonderful and I promise you, I did sing it.
It is bloody freezing here, British winters, who needs them?
Hope you are well and not experiencing the same cold conditions as I am.
Take care and stay warm Ruby :) xxx

Hi, Ruby,

I'm trying to find, and keep, the magic of Winter, but the cold and dark it brings makes it hard. We've had about a week of bitter cold, followed by a couple days of unseasonably warmer weather. My bones predict the drastic changes. Hope to read your wonderful new work here, soon!
Take good care,
Lx

I like...

the rhythm of this one. it marches right along, of course, your rhyming words are right on. In the line "Though in our arrogance
we fall" I think it could use a single syllable to bring the line to full strength. " Though in our arrogance we [may] fall, or some other word to fill that space. The use of the female pronoun gives the whole thing a goddess-like quality. Nicely done!

Hello, Geezer,

Contemplating the Universe, the Earth, and our place in it, especially during this season, and finding comfort there. I'll think over your suggestion regarding another syllable. Always grateful for your help!
Warm wishes to you and yours during this Special Season!

Hello

The mimicked rhythm is close to if not exact. I expect this was a difficult poem to write
