constants of change
Many, many decades later,
Subtrahend— —the thief of
time—had stolen years,
whittling away youth
with quiet precision,
leaving only memories as souvenirs.
Minuend, proud and steadfast,
stood firm against life’s relent-
less subtractions, holding onto
laughter,
unyielding, even as the seasons
adjusted the equation.
Difference, a wanderer,
measured space between
our footprints, sometimes vast,
sometimes mere inches—
—always shifting but never lost.
Constant, our faithful friend,
never faltered through life’s
algorithms, proof that distance
and time could never truly
divide what was meant to remain.
And so, decades later,
when our paths converged once more,
the solution was simple, undeniable:
Friendship is a theorem unbroken—
—forever true.

Hello, CB!
A great blend of theory and pure ... what? Fate? Destiny? I'll be back when my mind is fresh. Meanwhile, "Difference, a wanderer..." Well said.
Thank you!

It speaks to me
of a true friendship, meeting again, after the test of time. Much may be gone and replaced or forgotten, but the friendship has always held a strong foundation. Even through constant change.
Thank you!

An interesting playful title.
And the last line should work out true, if only...
Unfortunately not every friendship is that constant, or at least what I got from those closing lines.
Still I like the bit of mysterious philosophy that wraps this piece.
Thank you for sharing as always!
