Dear August, Until...

You've come to say goodbye,
but it's hard,
so you linger here
in these late days of summer,
my tennis shoes, now dusty and thin,
my bicycle resting by the sidewalk
harboring one dried rose petal in its tattered basket.

Together we've exhausted those days behind us,
absorbed every moment under the sun, the moon,
the stars that listened to us as we gazed upward
from blades of balmy grass.
We've spent our time, and then some.

You'll linger awhile, still,
because it is so hard to go.

So please, sit with me while the sun hesitates to set,
until the last firefly wisps away one night
and forgets to return to say, "So long."
Sit with me until my face grows cold,
and my breath tarries in the air.

Stay with me until our memories
are blanketed by September's bold leaves,
and summer cicadas sing their final farewell.

Somehow, just stay...

Dear Lavender

Never been a fan of summer with all it's subseqncs like mosquitoes, etc... But, I will beg August to stay some more few days just for you.
As always you never fail to amaze me with your words.

This is what I wrote to August

I sent August a farewell letter
and begged it not to come back again
unless its summer's sun-so hot,
is substituted by graceful rain.

Hello, Rula!

I love your letter, and agree with a lot of it! :) I'm always a tad blue when the summer starts to fade, although I do appreciate the value of all four seasons. Thank you for your encouraging words!

dear Lavender,

all that is in this poem is so delicately beautiful. So much so, that I cannot choose favorite lines without quoting the whole poem back to you. You wrote my heart... thank you so very much!

Hello, Cat!

It seems this summer is flying by, but then, as I get older, time in general flies by faster. I do love the summertime, but all the seasons have special qualities, too.
Thank you so much!

Dear Lavender,

My favorite season has always been Fall/Autumn. there is just something in the air...the wind currents. And the smell, and variegated colors you can almost taste! Catching a leaf falling from a tree... Autumn seems to please all the senses. I do not think I can describe it well... everything is brisk. It is a time of apple cider and cinnamon sticks. bouquets of leaves and Indian Corn, and... spooky stories heralding November a month of celebration for the harvested crops. I love your poem!
