The Door I Didn't Slam

I knew I tried to do my best to be honest
But sometimes some relationships don’t pan out
Even if there’s a light amidst kindred spirits
Feelings can dry up and go into a drought

And maybe it was the times and those days of youth
Like a rollercoaster – emotions ran wild
One day we’re all laughing and the next we’re crying
One day I’m wanted and the next I’m exiled

But I didn’t get mad that one time I got burned
Instead I let tears wash over me like rain
It teared and inspired me like some work of art
Letting my heart sink I delved into the pain

Broken and mended I learned to be resilient
I didn’t fully understand it at that time
But some of life lessons need to be experienced
So that it molds us and shapes us into our prime

Today I remember the door I didn’t slam
That day I walked away with my head held up high
It’s a forgotten memory of love and youth
Like the wings of a verse watching the time fly by

Dear Wallyroo,

So true, the words of your poem...we transmute the pain of an experience into wisdom and growth. If we are strong and honest with ourselves. I am glad I read this piece of truth!

Thanks for sharing this. Fondly, Cat
