Easy Target

With her suspicious heart for ammunition,
one inevitable wrong move by me
and I was going to be done for.

Pretty soon, I stopped
trying to avoid her aim.
She had already put holes
where we needed to breathe.

Thanks for stopping by, Rula…

Thanks for stopping by, Rula! This is a piece about a failed love, with the cause being a very untrusting heart (for no reason I gave her). I gave up on the relationship because some damage cannot be repaired. Definitely going for a Bukowski-ish vibe, one of my major influences - cheers!

Thank you for the clarification

reading this again, it makes much sense. So, this was a true story?  I definitely believe you did the best. Some damages absolutely can't be repaired.

Thank you again for sharing.

Hello, Michael,

Nice title.  The final line is moving - ironically, the poem gives the feeling of suffocating...

Thank you!
