Forewarning

Shadowed talons reaching for the basement
trapped by pale politicos above
southern culture lost to cold indifference
strangles the hypocrisy of love

clinging to society is fruitless
when savagery’s accepted as the norm
black and white are shades completely empty
and little children grow to fit the form

power is the currency of freedom
apathy the scourge of those who wait
wandering a city with no mercy
praying for a miracle too late

nothing is more powerful than passion
motivated by the need for pride
belief that all humanity’s a rainbow
must evolve from something deep inside

struggling for what most take for granted
is not a way for anyone to live
poverty itself has no true color
when demographics dictate what we give

to truly understand the human problem
we must begin to realize the need
and ignoring what our souls are made of
will only cause us all to sorely bleed
