FRANK
In February of 41 promotion came his way,
His wife received a telegram the words on it did say:
Confirmed, Commissioned PFO,
Pilot Flying Officer to you.
Just 28 a wife and child
With hopes of a future new.
In November 41 another missive came,
Details of an awful day over a bombing range;
Bombing tests in a Blenheim IV,
Just test runs like so many before,
When in the plane the bombs blew hard
And into the cockpit an inferno roared.
Trapped, head in flames, unconcious,
His navigator got him out;
His chute destroyed;
He had no chance.
Just 28 with wife and child.
Frank Heapey. The Uncle I never knew.

Dear Alex,
A story of sorrow, to be sure. And to leave behind a wife and child, to hear this terrible news! Thanks for recommending this to me.
*much respect, Cat

I have no stories like this to tell, but I'm amazed at the experieces that you write about, a very crushing ending! I want to say great job and I do as usual. I'm sorry that your family had to go through this.

Hi Leslie.
Thank you for commenting. Frank was just one of many thousands with a tragic tale to tell. I am thinking of writing one about "The Barham" sunk by torpedo in October 41. The video of it is on you tube. Huge loss of life but my late father in law was a survivor. Alex

Your writing never ceases to amaze! I am mesmerized by your stories and experiences. You are truly an educated and eclectic, beautiful person. I pray for a long continuation.

Thank you Leslie but my wife says my head is swollen enough already, Perhaps she shouldn't beat me so much. I try to be humble and self effacing but I confess it is difficult when one has such a wealth of talent. Alex the Humble.
