Guiding Light

Light the way with care
My lantern in the bleak
To live with you another day
Is all that I shall seek

The stairs are steep and winding
No matter up or down
Your spirit is my candle
So I may see uneven ground

Climbing spiral in the dark
Fumbling ascent
Christen me with falling tears
Produced from efforts spent

Thoughts pervade my day as well
Taunt me as they must
You’re there to shelter me from rain
So that I will not rust

Armor borne of need, around
A large and tender heart
Now it’s rendered obsolete
Although my fears are not

You disperse the shadows
Upon the battlefield
I will always be your sword
You will be my shield

If I fall take up my blade
With the passion our love made
Strike the fear unto the ground
Sow the earth with hope abound

dear Tim,

favorite lines are in the summation:

If I fall take up my blade
With the passion our love made
Strike the fear unto the ground
Sow the earth with hope abound

these are the heartbeat of a dedicated warrior. I love the whole poem and feel glad to have read it. it is selfless and brave, without pride getting in the way. to live and die for a cause that is noble. I salute you as one warrior to another.

Kudos to...

the unfailing romantic! I love how you let it all hang out in the adoration of your wife. She must be a very special lady. I feel the same about mine, so when you tap into that, it makes me feel like you have written about lovers all over the world. My favorite lines:
"Armor borne of need, around
A large and tender heart
Now it's rendered obsolete
Although my fears are not

Well done brother! ~ Geez.

How beautiful

She must be flattered with this and any other lady should be envious, I included :)

Many great lines through out, but I thought the opening stanza is stunning.
