Happy Birthday, Singapore
From a stretch of swampland
and colonies of villages,
from wooden huts owned
by the poor and impoverished,
from strangers , fortune seekers,
from the hands of our pioneers
Singapore is born, a country shaped
by a nation strong and free
We have sailed through the years
for the dream of our promised land.
A home that we can be proud of,
nurtured for many generations .
A place where we belong
no matter how far we've gone.
This is our country, our homeland
that we will protect with our lives
in the name of honour
Today, on 9th of August 2014,
we celebrate the 49th years
of our county's independence.
As we gather at the stadium,
singing our National Anthem,
our voices become one
when we wished Singapore,
A Happy Birthday..

Yeah,
You should be proud of your home land.
It is a place that I'd love to visit one day after hearing a lot about it.
Is it right that chewing gum is forbidden there?

Salaam, Rula
yes it is, but some people are quite defiant. Its good to hear that you've heard the good stuff about my country. Just don't forget that its not all good here. Like any other countries, it has its own flaws.

I have flown into Singapore but couldn't stop.
I have always said that if I ever stop at such a place I would never return, but it wont happen now, and another place has priority lol, also one in dreams.
Happy Birthday Singapore and may you teach your children to love others above all teachings, with unconditional love..
Yours Ian.T

Hello Ian
Thank you for the visit and comments. If I have children of my own, I will remember your words. They are the same ones from my elders here.

aww, you're too kind with your words. I'm still a learning poet. If I become better, it is all thanks to the support and encouragement from the people here, so thank you.
Thanks for the well wishes too. Some people told me that tomorrow is still a mystery but of course, we can hope and strive for the best.
