In His Clutches

Smiling your smile
Spitting curses and lies

Provoked
---
Breathing in your words
And exhaling the smoke

Fuming
---
Foaming at the mouth
I’ve consumed the poison

Trembling
---
Falling into your trap
No means of escape

Arrested
---
Chained and barred
From life itself

Confined
---
Keys just out of reach
Held down by your thumb

Captive
---
Picking the lock
With my own bones

Escape
---
Chasing me
With your silver tongue

Evading
---
Looking back
Another woman in your grasp

Freedom

This was powerful

And hit on so many levels with me! I love the form and your use of descriptive language to hold the reader's attention. The one word stanzas were intense and drove the feelings of anger, desperation, sadness and in the end relief home. Well done.
