July 2023 Challenge I was lucky

I WAS LUCKY

I WAS LUCKY

His grandad brought me
Nestling in his big hand
A ninth birthday present
Obviously long planned

I was a young fox terrier
The smooth haired breed
Lucky was to be my name
I even had a leather lead

I soon adapted as a pet
Clearly loved by the boy
Taken daily for a walk
Even given a rubber toy

With a garden to explore
A soft bed based inside
Could I want for more
A warm home I can abide

Dog years are multiplied
I was twelve at the end
Getting a little arthritic
But still happy I contend

I Was Lucky

Hello, T48,
What a great take on the contest! I'm hoping it's a true story! Wonderful rhythm and rhyme.
A happy poem, and a fun read.

A nice turn around for the contest

I love how you took this theme and turned into something kind and very sweet. I have just come from a poetry workshop where Peter Bakowski spoke about sometimes installing 'fun' into poetry - and you've done that! Thank you.

Such an adorable poem. I love how you told it from the perspective of the dog. Well done.
