IRAQNOPHOBIA by Ziggy and Lou

I pay homage to the soldiers
who took charge ,when words failed
those who ordered the
execution of our youth.

I pay homage to soldiers
who are now departed,
A clear blue sky divides
the living from the dead.

Breathtaking sunsets creep
unfolding on to troubled horizons,
gaining ground.
Whilst those that are left cry,
" hear me lord, bring them home to me”.

United they stand in bloodshed
targets acquired to shield politicians.
Shoot to kill.
What's fair about warfare?
No one wins.

This is good.

At my church we recently protested the 9th anniversary of the Afghan war.
The sentiments expressed there have been encapsulated exactly and succinctly in your poem. well done.

Respectfully,

Jim

Lou & Zigs

I have to say the title grabbed the highlight for me...so very perfect.

The write itself is well crafted and carries a strong view-point.

I think I can work out who wrote what, but I am very familiar with both your styles, so I had an advantage.

Great co-write my friends,

HS

Yes how utterly sad for the soldier

treated no more than an insect by the powers that be. I appreciate your poem but have to think it's not that nobody wins...one side wins, and for most of our history made life miserable for the conquered. This continues today. As to why we are conquering ourselves in the first place..
have we really evolved more than the chimpanzees, who make war on each other just like us. I would like to think I have, and you have, so we just have to get everyone to agree to just not do it.
The Beatles were right, as was Auden, "we must love one another or die". I think Jesus said something about that too, among a few others.

I love this stanza!

Breathtaking sunsets creep
unfolding on to troubled horizons,
gaining ground.
Whilst those that are left cry,
" hear me lord, bring them home to me”.
