ISSAQUEENA'S RUN (part two )

In anguish she steals to her tent
no time to think, no time to plan
gathers up supplies to travel
she has to run to save her man

Sneaks carefully out of the village
avoiding all the major routes
but, when barely out of sight
absence is announced by shouts

Now fleeing down the mountain ridges
pursuit begun by angry braves
all skilled in tracking and in hunting
prey down to their deaths and graves

They fan out quietly seeking sign
as she runs so very lightly
careful, no breaking twigs, no sound
stealthy,stealthy...quietly,quietly

A distant cry, they've found her trail
now they all on one converge
running down her chosen path
in her direction they now surge

Slowly gaining, drawing nearer
as she grows winded, out of breath
wondering if there's any escaping
from her hunters, short of death

Now hearing distant waters crashing
over nearby sheer rock cleft
glimpsing warriors, now in sight
is there any hope now left ?

excited yelps, for now they see her
next to the falls, against the sky
panting, hopeless, eyes wide with fear
soon this traitor's going to die

In semi-circle they close in
taunting "You'll not long be alive!"
against the falls and high cliff
her only option : die or dive

She looks now from face to face
almost hearing their hearts' thumps
she turns her back to her tormenters
looks to the sky, tenses....and jumps

..........end part two........
