LEAF'S FALL
I am the late autumn leaf
clinging tightly to the tree
beat up by the summer storms,
fall's colors deserting me.
Aware that with the next hard frost
I'll likely be driven from my home
high within the forest canopy
and join my brethren in the loam.
But stubbornly I still hang on
to the only life I've ever known.
Is this what they really mean
by becoming fully grown?
Alas, the seasons never slow
and soon I'll go where all leaves go
joining the others in the duff
on the ground there far below.

Hello Stan
A good title/playing with the word fall.
Great use of personification throughout.
Many wonderful lines but I especially like
But stubbornly i still hang on
to the only life I've ever known.
Is this what they really mean
by becoming fully grown?
Lots of appreciation.

Stan
A good write as always.
Now I wrote a piece a while back where the Loam is once again taken up by the tree and low and behold it makes the new coat of green for the next year..
You are being very Humon wanting to put an end to things as we seem to live and die..
Energy cannot die, and all things are energy, it changes and carries on, if they plant us as a body or scatter us as ashes we will as a physical creature be recycled, though our Spirit as an energy pattern or frequency will carry on to perfection.. Or What ????
Take care and know that they are but a thought away.
Yours Ian ..

Hi Ian
Just because this poem stops with the leaf contemplating joining its friends doesn't preclude its being recycled to a new leaf. lol. Appreciate your visit.....stan

Stan
Will we be as new leaves some time in the future or will we have had enough of being recycled lol
