A Little's a Lot

If I knew then what I know now
With the know-how of what’s what
And calm thoughts, no why nots
The road’s lowest lows and highest highs
Would be closed off with a bright sign
That reads ‘turn back, threats ahead
The gym’s there, go before bed!’
Well, I did what I did and paid the price
Hospital beds and sleepless nights.
From slums frequented to fun that’s rented,
Like the price I was high but then fell.
But the highs were a lie and although I survived
The fall below where I dwelled, is hell.
But it is what it is, and I’ve got what I’ve got:
I survived when the odds said I wouldn’t
I could have much more but which of us couldn’t?
Compared to nothing, a little’s a lot.

A Little's A Lot

I really enjoyed this, Michael. So honest and raw, and yet something tender and full of wisdom. Acceptance, forgiveness, and moving on. The last two lines are gold.
Thank you,

I think you could improve on those lines, which seem rather rhyme-led, but the rest is very good. Sound advice too.

That part really belongs on

That part really belongs in there though. Going out and drinking and getting up to all sorts has nearly killed me. On the occasions the gym came first, that's when things were good. originally I had danger, not threats but yeah it rhymes so why not! Thanks
