THE LONELY ONES

Some are widows, widowers
or stuck in marriages gone stale
others outlived all their friends
living in a world grown pale.

Most have faces lined by time
with hair of white or gone away.
They are there if one just looks
as they sit with little left to say.

Even when within a crowd
of people they purport to know
you'll notice that they don't say much
as they feel their isolation grow.

Their silence doesn't mean they're dense
indeed deep within their silent shell
often burns a near genius
wanting to leave their private hell.

I know all about the lonely ones,
all the ones you know and often see
for all to often that isolated soul
is.........

Hi scribbler

This is the situation where if don't notice the lonely ones and make them friends they might end up in depression, we need and have to bring people close to us regardless of who they areno matter what.
Thanks for dropping by.
I rather learn how to fish than beg for one.

Yes

I recall, especially during school years a Lot of these folks who never hardly said a peep. They were at best ignored and at worst bullied..

A well thought out message...

I like everything about this one! Especially the last line. I know that it is hard for some people to come out of their shell and be involved in what goes on around them. Fortunately, or unfortunately for some people that know me, I hardly ever shut up! I am the gregarious type and make friends wherever I go; but I see those that find it hard and I try to pull them out of that mode.
I am thankful for Neo. and the 'net', because it allows me the opportunity to have friends all over the world! I am especially happy to have been your friend and have you share your poetry with us. ~ Geez.

Yes...

it is! Especially Rebels! We may not see eye to eye on some things, but there are enough similarities between us and our love for this country, to make us friends! I am the well loved black-sheep of my family and friends. Some people will say, that "He's a rebel" [meaning me] "but he means well". [shaking their heads]. ~ Gee.
P.S. First time I ever was on "the net", I wound up on Neo. too!
