The Memories of Water
Water never forgets,
each drop a fragment of what once was.
Rivers carved through stone recalling glaciers,
oceans echo the songs of long-gone whales.
Rain falls, heavy with stories,
whispering of mountains it nurtured,
and deserts it dared to cross.
It pools in lakes, holding reflections for centuries.
A single droplet clings to a leaf,
remembering the storm it survived,
the clouds it left behind,
and the roots it will soon embrace.
As it pours into you, surrender to its touch,
an ancient pulse, flowing through your veins.
We are all vessels of water and time,
our lives an endless rhythm of ebb and flow.
The water waits, timeless and restless,
its memories shifting with the tides,
tracing the endless cycle
of return.
About This Poem
Last Few Words: After reading an article about climate change I had to change my thinking. I hope I've managed to do so but it is difficult to see where we are going so I thought, maybe the water of our glorious planet holds the answer. :)

Hi Ruby Lord!
I don't often comment on free verse pieces, but feel compelled to comment on the vocabulary you presented here. This seems to be on another level from what I usually read from you, so kudos for that!

Memories of Water
Hello, Ruby,
Wonderful to see your work. I love the appreciation for water, here. It's true - water is the key to life, and the answer to what happens next with climate change. The balance is critical. But like your relevant poem with that beautiful last stanza states, water waits. Nature will take care of herself. This is consoling and lovely.
Thank you!

Hello Ruby...
How nice to see you. It's been a while since I saw your last post.
The story of water, and the major part it plays in our lives, is unmistakable.
We are mostly water, our planet is mostly water, and the intricate interaction
of it with us is told with a good deal of clarity; the paths that water takes to mingle with us are many. Good story! ~ Geez.

I confess...
that I do not remember or have a copy of what you have changed, but I see that it is better than I remember, and it was very good the first time I read it. It reads very smoothly, and I love it! ~ Geez.
