No Martyr
No Martyr
I am no martyr.
No appointment was made to be mangled in your hatred
I was not willfully strangled by your traditions
I did not plan to be hung by your guilt
I had not accepted an unneeded mercy in the fire
God’s plan did not include a death sentence
I was not shot by mistake.
I was not shot by mistake!
Martyrs don’t choose to be martyrs.
They elect to be heroes.
By awful fate–
Your design,
They are murdered
Unsurrendered
Without joy
Without having made peace.
They are murdered.
Sans mistake.
They are murdered.
I am no martyr.
As I stand and sit firmly in my ground,
Again,
And Again
And Again
I am
No
Martyr!

hello TaeMarie,
your poem is great about how most people don't choose to be martyrs. i like how you keep denying that this is you. I guess you just happened to be in the right place at the wrong time.
by the way, welcome to Neopoet!
always, Cat
