North Country Moon

The pearl orb hung
low in the sky,
wisps of cloudy tendrils
drifting by her shapely full-face.
Lady moon looked down
to the faithful silver wolf
serenading her from below.
In the frozen distance
traveling the air currents
he caught the young she-wolf's
strong, sustained riposte...
His quavering voice
echoed a heartfelt howl
promise of lupine love
under the stars, a paradise
of passion, frosted breath
on the timberlines...

Neopoet AI (premium) - 5-29-23 version

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

The poem "North Country Moon" presents a vivid imagery of a moonlit night and the interaction between the moon and the wolves. It effectively uses metaphorical language to convey deeper meanings. However, there are areas where the poem could be improved.

Firstly, the poem could benefit from a more consistent rhythm. The lines vary significantly in length, which can disrupt the flow of the poem. It might be beneficial to revise the poem with a specific meter in mind to create a more harmonious rhythm.

Secondly, the poem could use more concrete imagery. While the metaphors are evocative, they could be grounded in more specific descriptions. For instance, instead of simply stating "wisps of cloudy tendrils," the poem could describe the color, texture, or movement of the clouds to create a more vivid picture.

Lastly, the poem could benefit from a clearer narrative or thematic progression. While the interaction between the moon and the wolves is intriguing, it's not entirely clear how this interaction develops or what it signifies. Developing this aspect of the poem could provide a more satisfying resolution and deepen the poem's overall impact.

Your title...

Is good, and feels like a title for a blind date. I love the idea of the wolves never having laid eyes on each other, singing and arranging to meet. A blind date! The pace was good and I didn't stumble. In the first line, I would use (A pearl disc) or some other word for the moon, as you make sure that the fifth line says "Lady Moon". Other than that, a great poem! Very nicely done. - Geez.

Well done

I love this. Wolves are one of my favorite creatures and I love the concept of how they connect through howls and not in person. The language and flow matched the meaning behind the poem perfectly.

Awe!

This left me breathless for a while. It has much to say between the lines. I especially like the language used and the imagery.
A competitive entry for the contest I think.
Best wishes dear and thank you for sharing.
P S. I'm not sure I got the "young.she- wolfs"
Should it be wolves or wolf's?

Dearest Rula,

I have a love for the other animal inhabitants of our Earth. Some, more than others. The human species tends to disappoint me with their penchant for cruelty and carelessness. That is why I am so joyous when finding people/poets like you with a loving heart. Thank you for calling my attention to the problem. You were right it should have been (wolf's) I appreciate it, lol (I am terrible with punctuation and am constantly looking up the spelling of words) May all your days be peaceful and your nights enchanting!

love, your Candle

Dear Sis,

Dear Sis,

as expected your piece has a beautifully lyrical quality, evoking a sense of nature’s ethereal beauty while also delving into themes of love & longing. You’ve created an atmosphere that feels both serene & full of quiet intensity, & the imagery is vivid & elegant.

The imagery in this poem is rich & evocative. The description of the moon as a "pearl orb" & the "wisps of cloudy tendrils" drifting by creates a tranquil, almost otherworldly setting. The "faithful silver wolf" serenading the moon is a powerful image, suggesting both loyalty & a deep, mystical connection between the wolf & the moon. The detail of the "frosted breath on the timberlines" enhances the cold, wintry feel, making it feel both romantic & raw.

The rhythm of the poem is smooth & consistent, with a gentle cadence that matches the quiet majesty of the scene. The tone is lyrical, almost like a ballad, adding to the sense of timelessness in the connection between the wolves & the moon.

Overall, this poem beautifully captures the silent, emotional dance between the wolves & the moon. The imagery is strong, & the tone is perfect for the mood you’re setting.

In short Sis, this is awesome!

Dear Mark,

I am glad to read your thoughts on my poem! Thank you for staying a moment to read and comment on this poem. Yesterday early morning, there in my backyard, a deer paused to listen to the air currants... as it was my 74th birthday, I felt this was a precious gift...

Hi Cat, for me the interplay

Hi Cat, for me the interplay of the characters/elements and their dynamic flowed seamlessly with the building mood from title to its closing that. The reader had surely not walked away empty or unfilled. And for me that constitutes substance and gravitas. Much enjoyed :-)
