Our Last Goodbye

We spent our last hours in my car.

We both knew what was to come,
but we pretended we didn't...

We ate Chinese food,
drank some drinks,
laughed and sang our hearts out.

We couldn't stop looking at each other,
silently saying "I love you"

The clock was ticking too fast,
We only had minutes left.

I can't say goodbye
I can't let you go

I begged you to stay,
I cried and held your hand in mine,
pleading for more time.

To no avail, you said goodbye with a kiss of my hand
and closed the door behind you.

Shaking hands clutched my steering wheel
and I let go.

Every tear I held in to be brave for you,
to be strong for you,
I let it go...

I screamed your name in that empty parking lot
I asked God why
I begged the air for you to come back

You didn't...

As Monday comes around,
you weren't in the hallway,
your classroom seat is empty,
and I'm the only one that knows why.

I'll see you again, only once more...
Wearing all black with tears in my eyes.

My heart is as cold as yours.
