Pressure

I feel your blood drip down my face
As I pick you up from the dirt

My energy is high
My thoughts are focused.

I feel a surge of adrenaline
rush through my veins

Find the wound,
Stop the bleeding,
Numb the pain,

Found the wound,
The bleeding won't stop.

Pressure, pressure,
Pressure…

The bleeding won't stop

Chest compressions, chest compressions,
Chest compressions...
---
Before I knew it,
You were back in the dirt.

A daunting melody played in the background,
Forcing my thoughts into my throat.

Hugs and tears and whispers
“I’m sorry for your loss”

Find the wound,
Stop the bleeding,
Numb the pain…

If only it had been that easy…

I felt this one...

I was never an EMT or nurse but did come upon an accident where there was some serious injury. I did what I could, and he lived for a couple of days, but died because he did not get enough treatment fast enough. [Who knows how long he lay there before I came along]? I learned of his passing shortly after and wondered. This brings it back in full detail of my efforts and were they enough? Very well written. A couple of missed commas and apostrophes. ~ Geezer.

Thank you

for your feedback, Geezer! I'm sorry you had to experience a loss like that and that I reminded you of it... I appreciate your corrections to my punctuation. I corrected what I found. Please let me know if I missed anything else.

I appreciated...

the memory, oddly enough. I am amazed at having lived through at least some of the things I have lived through, let alone all of them. I appreciate that life can be taken away in a heartbeat. We can be tougher than steel, or as fragile as a butterfly.
Anyway, I thought you had a real handle on it. ~ Geez..

I agree,

Life is unpredictable and shouldn't be taken for granted. It's moments like these that remind us of that. Thanks for sharing your experience!
