PRIORITIES

We'll do it another day
when i can spend some time with you.
Then we can visit or play
but I have things I must get to
which tie me up throughout tomorrow.

Then we turn from those we love
to stuff that requires time from us.
Some project's push has come to shove.
Some client is raising a fuss.
Perhaps I'll be free tomorrow.

Then shoulders slump and eyes turn down
unseen because we've turned away.
Old folks try to hide their frown.
Young folks find others to play;
too often they have heard "tomorrow".

Over time aged faces pass beyond
and unlined ones just grow apart
like waves traversing a smooth pond
or fading rumbles of departing cart.
Then we find to our deep sorrow
too often there is no tomorrow.

Hello Stan

A very expressive piece
I can relate to this. Many old aged parents around where I live. I hope your message would find a listening ear.
I especially liked the repeated "tomorrow".
Thank you for sharing.

Stan

good use of literary devices to create a melancholic mood and expressing regrets for letting precious moments pass by as we keep moving forward like in a train while the landscape quickly passes by...

Hi raj

I don't recall regretting missed opportunities until a bit of age accrued. Yet another reason for troubled sleep i guess lol. Thanks for the visit.......stan
