Project Fear

The aliens are coming,
Musk says it must be true.
And Putin's threatening,
Europe, or Britain too.
Muslim boat people,
Are taking over,
The 4% are a threat?
Arriving via Dover.
Hidden migrationary tears,
In hateful narratives,
Of project fear.

Much misinformation exists,
Yet fear gets reapplied.
Divide and conquer,
Stretched far and wide.
It's hard to know,
Who's the problem now.
The young, old, disabled,
Whoever media will allow.
Or perhaps the sick,
Maybe the out of work.
Like being vulnerable,
Was some kind of perk.

Chaos covers,
For what design?
A veil that smothers,
What does it hide?
Protection of whom?
And who gets to decide?
Perhaps it's found,
On money's path.
Maybe was always,
On our history graph.
And perhaps like a game,
Of strategic moves,
The answers are found,
In life's cracks or grooves.

But wait,
I hear you call out.
Isn't this what,
Rabbit holes are all about?
Crazy theories,
Missing links.
My head hurts,
The more it thinks.
Of information withheld,
State secrets, you know.
Yet unthinking people,
Find lies easy to swallow,
Chanting repeatable phrases,
So easy to follow.

Tokenistic words,
Fed by vultures,
To ravenous birds.
Clinging negatively,
Onto another's opinions.
As lambs to the slaughter,
Yee fateful minions.
Blindsided to truth,
By misinformation confusion,
That hides the proof.
Blocks out the noise,
Phases out history.
So project fear,
Stands out, in all its glory.

Neopoet AI [2025-04]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

This poem engages with contemporary anxieties and the mechanisms by which fear is propagated in society. The thematic focus on misinformation, manipulation, and societal division is clear and timely. The poem’s structure, with its stanzas of varying lengths and a conversational tone, helps convey a sense of urgency and confusion that mirrors the subject matter.

Strengths: - The poem effectively captures the pervasive nature of fear and its instrumentalization in political and social contexts. - The use of rhetorical questions (“Protection of whom? / And who gets to decide?”) invites readers to reflect critically. - The imagery of “vultures” and “ravenous birds” feeding on “tokenistic words” is vivid and evocative, reinforcing the predatory nature of misinformation. - The closing lines succinctly encapsulate the poem’s central thesis about “project fear.”

Areas for development: - Some lines feel prosaic or didactic, such as “Much misinformation exists, / Yet fear gets reapplied.” Consider employing more metaphorical or sensory language to deepen emotional resonance. - The poem occasionally relies on listing (“The young, old, disabled, / Whoever media will allow.”), which can disrupt rhythm and engagement. Integrating these ideas into more dynamic imagery or narrative could enhance flow. - The rhyme scheme is inconsistent, shifting between rhymed couplets and free verse. While this can be a deliberate stylistic choice, clarifying the pattern or embracing free verse more fully might strengthen cohesion. - Certain phrases like “Yee fateful minions” are somewhat obscure or archaic in tone, potentially distancing readers. Clarifying or rephrasing could improve accessibility.

Suggestions: - Experiment with varying line lengths and enjambment to create more momentum and tension. - Incorporate more concrete images or scenes that illustrate the abstract concepts of fear and misinformation. - Consider tightening the poem’s focus by selecting a few key examples or metaphors to develop more fully rather than enumerating multiple targets of fear. - Reflect on the poem’s voice: is it a narrator, a collective voice, or a direct address? Sharpening this perspective could enhance impact.

Overall, the poem offers a thoughtful critique of societal fear and manipulation. With refinement in language, structure, and imagery, it could achieve greater emotional depth and clarity.

Tigger Kazz

The world is a freaking mess and none here can make it right. Everything is out of hand it just makes me want to hide. At least I have someplace to stay. A burning is on the horizon and God will right things in His own way. We just have to be patient and make good choices along the way. Listen to our inner voice, even when in dismay. Look for the light that's within you, your heart will show you the way. He has you in the palm of His hand, you're safe if you do it His way. That doesn't mean you won't suffer. We all suffer in our own way. It's part of the gig we've been handed. I hope you don't take this as advice I'm just trying to lighten a darkened day!
