Reading Times
As if a book, you turned my pages,
I read your mind through all your ages.
I held your hand, we’d follow words,
and learned the flight of painted birds.
When nursery rhymes came to life,
we counted animals and farmer’s wife.
When you were sure you read alone,
and turned each page of stories known.
To learn you needed school lessons,
you read much more, in different sessions.
And counting grew as high as trees,
well beyond the A B Cs.
You read out loud, the name we share,
and I would stroke your soft fine hair.
As time flew by, you learned much more,
Guaranteed, you I adore.

This is...
is something that I know about! Due to a troubled home life, my schoolwork suffered, and I was behind in learning to read.
I was in the fifth grade and struggling. My teacher, Mrs. Moore took an interest in me, and I wrote a poem about the effect she had on me.
I know that the last two lines might be really special to you, but I would save them to use another day. They don't add much to an already loving poem. ~ Geez.

Hi Geezer, thank you for
Hi Geezer, thank you for reading and thank you especially for your comment. You are right as usual and I have removed those lines. It reads better now. I suppose I'm just like any other mum. Especially proud of our only boy and what a lovely person he has grown up to be. Much appreciate your comments, Ruby xx

I imagine my mother had
I imagine my mother had similar thoughts as her children grew and blossomed (but unlikey to have been able to put it so eloquently). She would certainly have enjoyed this capture of childhood growth - well done Ruby, and thank you for sharing this!

Hi Michael, thank you for
Hi Michael, thank you for reading and commenting. I'm sure lots of mothers and fathers remember those quiet times we had with our children. I enjoyed reading with our son, just being close in that moment brings a lot of happy memories. Ruby xx
