THE REAL WORLD OUTSIDE

THE REAL WORLD OUTSIDE

Alone at this old desk, gazing out
From inside this empty classroom
Looking at the world denied to me
Through that smeary window I see
Living a life where I could be free
But in here it feels just like a tomb
Out of touch, and no rules to flout

I was detained for no good reason
The other kids have been excused
Outside somewhere, allowed to play
With permission to enjoy their day
Even if they fritter their time away
My plea to join them was refused
But soon it will be holiday season

It is a punishment for what I did
Or at least they think it was me
Among the staff there’s confusion
Burning books to start revolution
But such behaviour is no solution
To do such things I’d never agree
It wasn’t me, but some other kid
