R.I.P. to the Nations!
An atomic age
had dawned on us.
A burst of bright energy
fanned through the night sky.
No one
was spared,
we all ran
for cover.
Down to our basemets
and shelters.
Most of those left died
with the bites of black flies.
The utter destruction
had left us all paralyzed.
We didn't have time to think.
Our leaders had lied.
Opulence greed,
with morals degraded.
Lead to our downfall
We'd regret this day.
Our civilization had passed us
on that gloomy day.
Nothing was sacred
we'd given up our choices.
For ten thosand years
we'd wait for a rebirth.
Elon Musk in a shuttle
had fled from earth.
We who remaind
would see a bright light.
Descending from heaven
to soothe the dark night!

Dear John,
this is a dire prediction. I hope it it does not come to pass... once again you gave me chilling thoughts. Good work, my friend! my favorite lines are:
The utter destruction
had left us all paralyzed.
We didn't have time to think.
Our leaders had lied.

Thank you for commenting, it is a dire prediction. One that I think is going to happen soon. I hope that I'm gone before it comes. You keep on writing your poetry Cat.

Cant
say it any better . Hope not to see such a day though I don't think it's so far.
Liked the language used and the word choice all through and always appreciate that window of hope you've opened in the last stanza.
Appreciate it
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the praise I really needed that. There's always hope especially at the first light of a beautiful blue sky morning!
