Saving Earl...
An acorn falls from the tree
Plunk, on Simon's head
The cat jumps a little sideways
Says; "Earl Squirrel, you're dead!"
Earl doesn't pay him mind
Just laughs and goes his way
Simon nurses a bump
Thinks about "Someday!"
The cats all snicker catty
Giving little jabs and pokes
Simon says; "Shut up!"
"I'll get him for his jokes"
Earl the little squirrel
Dines on Bessie's corn
She moos at him and wishes
Earl a pleasant morn
Bessy likes to see him
Crawl up in the loft
Speaks to him each morning
She likes his fur, so soft
One day he's eating breakfast
Above dear Bessie's stall
The cats are watching closely
Hoping that he falls
It's early in the morning
The dogs are sleeping still
Little Earl is careless
The cats close in for the kill
But dear Bessie is awake
She's looking out for Earl
She steps upon a cat tail
A screech of pain, wakes up the world
An apology from Bessie
"Oh, I'm sorry dear
I wasn't looking where I'm stepping
I didn't see you near
Now, Simon's tail is crooked
The others don't mention it
Because every time they do
He's so mad that he could spit
Earl Squirrel stays in the rafters
And high up in the tree
He's careful not to fall
Just as careful as can be

Saving Earl
Yes! More shenanigans from Simon on the farm! I love Bessie, and I have a feeling Simon will never get by her. Hopefully he learns soon. Great job with rhyme and flow. I'm so glad no squirrels were injured in the making of this poem. Thanks for the laugh!

Dear Geezer,
AHHHHH This is hilarious!!!! XD XD And that last stanza.... I can see why everyone is writing farmyard poems now! Amazing job as always, and the rhyme and rhythm is right on point.

Thank you...
Sometimes, it's easy to get into a mode and write in a certain vein. This just happens to be something that most people can relate to and it really is fun to give animals a voice. Thanks for your [as always] great comments and encouragement! Maybe you should try one? ~ Geez.

This one is an off-shoot of the one titled "Cowgirls". There was another, "An Audience of Cows" and one called "Cat Tails" that were part of a group of farm themes. Glad you liked this one. ~ Geez.
