Snow

Snow came last night to rest on her way to colder places.
I woke to her, smiling.
An old lover.
We spent the day in wondering silence.
Two old friends in two old chairs.
Hands touching.
I recalled my tears at her painful diamond brilliance.
How she salted my coal black hair during our lovers walks.
She sighs.
Caresses my face.
The tears return.
My hair is gone but her brilliance remains.
Gently, she kisses my cheek.
With a careless wave and a backward glance
She leaves with a promise of return

Thank you Jayne

I have a passion for snow in all its forms. I love to ski and walk in winter at night in the snow. I feel alive in the cold.

Thanks again my wise friend,

Joe

Dreams are indeed free but

Dreams are indeed free but carry immense value! My closest experience to a "tropical" Christmas was once in the rainforest of Brazil on business in late December. I was sitting in an open air manicured jungle restaurant listening to Bing Crosby sing "White Christmas" while a huge brilliantly coloured parrot flew in among the tables. It felt like a scene from a Fellini Movie! The disconnect with my historical reality of a snowy Christmas with temperatures of -15C was incalculable. I flew home on December 22nd with snow, cold and the warmth of home and family.

Jayne, thanks for returning to this poem. I always look forward to your visits and comments. You are my wise and lovely friend!

What a lovely way to tender

What a lovely way to tender your hand to the spirit of the snow.
I too love the snow, and have written so many poems about it,
each time learning more about her spirit, as you have, that still,
cool quiet sun of the Winter, shining and even lighting up the
night with it's/her/his beauty.

As you do here....lovely Joe,
Ann.

With a title like this...

... I must approve.
Seriously, it was a piece of lovely intimacy. I live in a clime where I sweat from ninety degree "dry" heat while gazing at the hills (a mere one thousand feet above me) covered in snow. California is a very strange place.

I've spent time in Utah where the same strange vista occurs. Salt Lake has an even stranger circumstance where you can sail on it at 20 Below zero!

Thanks for stopping by to read this. Its much appreciated.

Hi Joseph

I also love the snow. But I expect there are many in northern climes who would as soon not see as much of it as they do lol. Comparing it to a lover who only rarely visits works very well I think................stan

Thanks Stan

Even in Canada, I'm in a minority. Most of my friends would rather spend winter in Florida rather than Toronto. Winter in the city with salt slush and dirt is a poor cousin to the snow and sky of the kawartha lakes.

Thanks again for spending the time to read this,

Best regards,

Joe
