Sojourn

Good morning, My Dear Friend.
May I take your hand,
sojourn in the company
of these quiet woods?

Nary a fellow human
burdens this tender soil,
nor startles the Red-Eyed Vireo.
Yet, if one longs for peace,

seeks solitude within the fragrant
lavender, or the cool caress
of the shady pine, these woods
will open their arms, still your heart

and let you just...
be.

Very lovely L! Red-Eyed…

Very lovely L! Red-Eyed Vireo sent me to wiki, I must admit. The last two stanzas were wonderful, and I loved the emphasis placed on the short and very strong last stanza to drive the message home - thank you!

Hello, Michael,

The Red-Eyed Vireo is a happy bird, or at least sounds like it.  Its call is continual and cheery, clear and distinct.  A lovely friend in the woods!

Thank you for reading!

Dearest Lavender

What a graceful piece, from the very first line to the last. I’m really captivated by the sense of peace it pours into the reader. I also wasn’t familiar with the Red-eyed Vireo before, so thank you for opening that window for me.

As always appreciate sharing this one dear!

More often than not, I gotta throw open a dictionary when I tackle a Lavender poem. Sojourn, interesting little word. One thing again, unique to your poems, I walk away having discovered a new bird. This kind of poems you write take me for a stroll through nature, So I imagined myself as "The dear friend" you bid take your hand, and um glad I took your hand. Lovely poem L.

Hello, WA,

Yes, any reader who senses the peace always found in the woods is the friend I take along with me. Sojourn - temporary, but so lovely while you're there.

Thank you for reading!
