Sound garden
The streetlights shine through my window
The sound of slowing traffic hits my ears
I can feel the chill of the night on my skin
Goosebumps randomly appear
Like specks of dust on my tv stand
I should sleep
Yet the subtle variations of sound
keep me intrigued
sirens in the distance
Chattering girls after a night out
The Closing of taxi doors
Couples saying goodnight
Giggles and flirtations
Completely oblivious to me tuning in
Thinking of all the times I was them
I close the window
Pull up the blankets
Now all I can hear are my own thoughts
Dripping through my mind like the
Constant Dripping of the bathroom tap
You never did fix
I close my eyes
And remind myself i have a lifetime
To fill with subtle variations
And I should sleep to ensure
I have the energy to embrace them

Dear Words.
I find it amazing, the thoughts we have before falling asleep! Thank you for sharing some of yours with us. My favorite lines are:
"I should sleep
Yet the subtle variations of sound
keep me intrigued"

Dear Words,
I am a very light sleeper and used to come up swinging. But after years of marriage I have calmed down. I feel safe, now.
*hugs, Cat
