Sounds of My Soul (Cat's Challenge)

And so it went...
Three years old
Fisher Price tape recorder
On my father's knee

In front of us sprawled out
Like treasures from a chest
Was an old collection
He resurrected just for me

From the first note dropped
I was reborn with a soulmate etched in verse
Forever tattooing lyrics
On my child heart

I was "Born To Be Wild"
Saved by grizzly vocals
That would stop me anywhere
How I needed them in later years

We walked "In The Garden of Eden"
And "Broke on Through" to the other side
All while searching for the "Stairway To Heaven"
And finding the "Highway to Hell"

Duets in the car
Even when I "Lost that Loving Feeling"
Dad always said "I Got You Babe"
"As Tears Go By"

I'm so grateful
For those memories
He is still with me today
And we get to reminisce about that special day

This is...

absolutely great! A challenge well met. I can only hope that when I take up the challenge, I do half as well as you. I'm thinking about how to span some 70 years of listening and still be relevant. I expect that I may have some of you scrambling to look up music from eras that you never heard from before. I will work on it o er the weekend and maybe have it ready before the new year. Yes, I remember all of those tunes you have listed. I have read and reread this Carrie, and I am amazed at how far your work has come since you first became a member of Neo. You have become a flower in full bloom and the scent is heady.

Thank you

For the high praise. I have learned from the best...you included. I could have continued with bands thru the years but there are just too many so I focused on where it began. I am so glad you enjoyed and am looking forward to yours.

dear Carrie,

a challenge well met! I enjoyed reading you list of musical related events in your life. would you happen to know anything about Jazz? I would like to research this source of music and I'm hoping someone can direct me to a starting point.
it has been a pleasure getting to know you a bit more through your music.

Hi Cat

I don't know much about Jazz. I am not opposed but never really got into it. My heart is with rock and roll. Thank you for the praise and kind words as always.

dear Carrie,

I had a rock-n-roll mother and a country western father. an odd combination at the time, lol. I just thought I'd ask for research purposes. thank you for taking me seriously.

If you want...

to start at the beginning, you should listen to Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Lonnie Johnson
and Sidney Bechet. They will start you out, if you want more, you can continue from there. Some of these people were relevant into the 50's. ~ Geez.

Took me back

Remembering days when i played a variety of music for my children from when very young to their teens. Picking up my daughter from a party, she was a little the worse for wear and she belted out Bob Dylans 'Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll'.
Love poetry I can relate to.

Wow. I mean, this stuff is just beyond anything I am used to seeing. You interweave memories and song titles so well throughout, that each verse tells a different story. I've never seen anything like it.

And many moods set thru the entire thing also help us to see and understand better, how you were feeling at the time.

I so loved this, Rose.

Thanks for sharing it.

Take care.
