Troubles (co-write with Ziggy)

Troubles

You are now entering
free Derry where blood
spat the streets our
kindred deceased
another score to add
to the tally

Hand it back, give it back
We might forgive, but we'll never forget
The violent riots, the murderous ways
Or the hostile attacks

What scars remain on
the graves of pain, never
tamed those freedom
fighters famed, without a
voice the slaughtered choice

Have it back, have it back
To all the fallen, we'll never forget
An Ireland rejecting the Union Jack

Take it back, take it back
An Ireland full of anger and regret
Have it back and burn the Union Jack

Eight hundred years without
remission, abandoning thoughts
and minds the cleansing of my kind

Have it back, take it back
We might forgive, but we'll never forget
The deadly bombs or the innocent killed
In the hostile attacks

Taken from their beds the innocent
bleed soon dead, yet in my life time
I've seen the fighting quell the cracking
of the hardened generation hatred shell

Keep 'The Troubled' land
But none of us will be able
To forget what happened!
Ireland and the Mainland

hi hood

this was for myself and I am sure you a very interesting write and
I feel it shows how much things have moved on, what I like most about this
is how we were able to write this from opposite sides of the same topic
which is not something I see often, wrote from our own view points in a
single write, which can be seen in the different verse's. cheers hood ,,,,,,,,,,,,zigs

Ziggy

Zigs,

I know this was entirely your idea for a co-write, but I must say I enjoyed the challenge. I like the idea of this being written by an Irishman and an Englishman...your idea of a spoken version is superb and something we will do in 2011. To have the different accents speaking their own parts hopefully will add an extra dimension to this piece.

I doubt many Irish and English people have got together to write about 'The Troubles'.

Great idea my friend and as expected a joy to work with you again.

Didn't think you were posting this one, glad that you decided to.

It's a very powerful write, I find it very emotional. Great comment on a difficult and emotive subject.

Lou

Lou,

I'm not sure why you thought we wouldn't post this one, it was always our intention to post it here and on my site.

When I was writing my parts, I became really angry about the whole issue and I hadn't really known how angry about it all I was until I began to put pen to paper.

We tried to give the piece a balance rathet than from a one-sided view.

We will be recording this as a spoken poem too, which should work quite well with the different accents. Obviously there is no 'spoken word' poetry on neo anymore, so it will be posted on my site.

Chat again in New Year,

thanks for the comment,

kindest regards and Happy New Year,

The reason that i thought you were not going to post this one, is that Ziggy told me that you didn't think you would.

It will sound really good as a spoken poem, because it has a very strong theme.

Rosina

Rosina,

the Northern Ireland issues are rather complicated to me too, but I think we managed to get the point across fairly without taking sides.

You may not be able to offer any comment as your history and knowledge of the conflict may be limited, but I appreciate you taking time to read and leave a comment for Ziggy & I.

Did you stay friends with the girl despite the religion differences?

kind regards,

HS

I like it but it seem to me that you kind of light up along the way. you started hard and strong, but you could have slapped a little harder
that's just my opinion, I mean you guys have both more power in the dark than is present here.

hi

hi this is about the troubles we had in the near past in northern Ireland
it was written from our own points of view.
there is no need to ever slap harder than the truth when writing on a subject
like this, this is not about writing DARK DARK poetry its based on fact
any way cheers for the comment ,,,happy new year ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,zigs

Dear Dan & ziggy,

I was sure I had commented on this piece! I wonder where my comment went to? It is a raw write to be sure. I applaud you both on this write so full of meaning and strangled emotion. Once again, I cannot pick favorite lines as they are all excellent.

Love to you both, Cat

Cat

Cat,

thanks for reading and commenting. I think the last time you critiqued this one, was when either I or Enda emailed it to you.

We are hoping to record this as a spoken word poem!

kind regards,
