Violation of Mother Earth

Though no hardcore survivalist,
(who lives one hundred percent
off the grid) to boot
I presume matched carbon footprint(s)
concerning pioneers of yore
unwittingly lived reaping
what they sowed
videlicet vegetables and fruit
possibly resorting
to slash and burn where vapour
from fires affected air quality,
but cents and sensibility courtesy
reverence for Gaia
infused a common Trader Joe
to exchange goods as loot
allowed, enabled and provided
those alone in the wilderness
to passively affect terra firma,
and perhaps being gay videlicet
making and playing instruments
(as unbeknownst to them)
forerunners of queercore
nevertheless herbalists
possessing prized knowledge
such at heart snakeroot
(as learned from indigenous peoples),
whose knowledge held in high repute
could be used as an antidote to snake bites
long, coarse, natural fiber
from the Corchorus plant,
known as the "golden fiber"
for its shine and low cost,
used to make strong,
biodegradable textiles like burlap,
sacks, rugs, and twine,
valued for its sustainability
and minimal environmental impact
compared to synthetics
or even cotton could be repurposed
into jute and even a zoot-suit
a flamboyant men's suit
from the 1930s-40s, defined by baggy,
high-waisted, tight-cuffed trousers
and a long coat with oversized,
padded shoulders and wide lapels,
often paired with a wide-brimmed hat
and long watch chain,
symbolizing style, rebellion,
and cultural identity,
especially within African American
and Chicano communities,
and hashtagging along
for no finer a canine companion
(as man's and woman's best friend)
Canis lupus familiaris
otherwise more familiarly known
as Labrador named "Jamore"
primarily a given name,
potentially a blend of names
or derived from roots
meaning "strong," "light of the sea,"
or "noble," with variations like J'amour
(French for "I love")
or Jamboree (a large celebration)
as related terms,
and also used by specific individuals
like the actor/artist,
hence doesn't have
one single dictionary definition
but rather meanings tied
to personal names, cultures,
and related words.

After clearing the land,
or more so
as happenstance beheld a wold
actually truth be told
yours truly would lack
a handy dandy blues clues
how to remain alive,
cuz I (similar to many other people,
and perhaps one
or more readers of this poem
stinted themselves and did deprive
helpful or rather
necessary DOS commands
that enabled functionality of a harddrive
back in the day
when Windows Operating System
predominated the figurative technology backbone
and began market dominance
in the early 1990s,
solidified by Windows 3.0
and especially Windows 95,
becoming the leading OS
for personal computers
by the mid-90s
due to its user-friendly graphical interface
and broad compatibility
with software and hardware,
a trend that continued for decades.

Neopoet AI [2025-04]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

This poem ambitiously weaves together themes of environmental impact, history, culture, and technology, creating a sprawling tapestry that challenges conventional poetic form. The associative leaps—from pioneer survival and indigenous knowledge to textile production, cultural identity, canine companionship, and finally computer operating systems—invite readers to consider the interconnectedness of human experience and the environment.

The poem’s strength lies in its encyclopedic approach, blending poetic narrative with informative asides. This hybrid style can be compelling, but it also risks diffusing emotional resonance. The extended parenthetical explanations and factual insertions, such as the detailed description of the zoot suit or the history of Windows OS, interrupt the poem’s flow and may detract from the immediacy of its core themes. Consider whether all these elements serve the poem’s central message or if some could be streamlined to enhance coherence and impact.

The language oscillates between colloquial ("handy dandy blues clues") and formal ("videlicet"), which creates an intriguing tonal tension but may also cause unevenness. Clarifying the intended voice—whether it is conversational, academic, or something else—could help unify the poem's tone.

Imagery related to nature and sustainability (e.g., "slash and burn," "golden fiber," "biodegradable textiles") is vivid and grounded, but the poem might benefit from more focused sensory details that evoke the physical and emotional realities of environmental violation. This would deepen the reader’s engagement beyond intellectual appreciation.

Structurally, the poem reads as a continuous stream of consciousness with minimal punctuation or stanza breaks. Introducing deliberate pauses or divisions could aid readability and emphasize key moments or shifts in theme.

Finally, the poem’s ending on Windows OS is intriguing but feels somewhat disconnected from the environmental and cultural threads that precede it. If the intention is to draw a parallel between technological dominance and ecological impact, making that connection more explicit could strengthen the poem’s conceptual unity.

In summary, refining the poem’s structure, tone consistency, and thematic focus while preserving its rich intertextuality could enhance its clarity and emotional power.
