I want them, I need them, I gotta have ‘em
I covet timepieces like I’m building a shrine
My collection is growing and yet I want more
Everyday I look for new and classic designs
I’m entranced by their automatic movements
The gears mark time like it’s something divine
I love to observe the seconds hands sweeping
Especially when the markers perfectly align
I have run out of room on my first watch box
As if I’m running out of time at this stage
Still I shop online but try to control myself
It’s an obsession that’s hard to assuage
I find a microbrand that catches my eye
Making sure it’s a price that I can afford
Reading and researching before deciding
Collecting them like I’m some kind of time lord
And when it arrives there is this type of rite
There is something about that first inspection
The unboxing becomes a ceremony
Captured for posterity and recollection
The box it came in goes into a bigger box
Just in case one day I may decide to sell
I feel like I’m hoarding for the love of time
Buying myself more time as far as I can tell

Dear Wallyroo
hello Time Lord! I much enjoyed your take on this contest! I used to buy my husband pocket watches and fobs. he wore them with his suits, for work. Then he started working from home. Now that he is retired, he no longer wears a suit. (I used to love buying him neckties, too!)
I really loved your poem...my favorite lines are:
And when it arrives there is this type of rite
There is something about that first inspection
The unboxing becomes a ceremony
Captured for posterity and recollection
I wish you the greatest recognition for your poem in the form of winning the contest!
fondly, Cat
p.s. Thank you for reading my other poems. I will get to answering your comments tomorrow or the next day (due to oral surgery and an abscessed tooth)

Greetings Cat,
Pocket watches to go along with his suit and tie. I bet the man always looked sharp. As I've gotten older, I have begun to appreciate a real style. A nice watch to match my outfit (I don't get to wear as many suits as I'd like), but I found myself wanting to elevate my game.
Over the last couple of years I found myself watching a lot of videos on horology. I find it fascinating, and a bit expensive, but I know when my time is up, I'll leave those timepieces to my kids and grandkids.
Thank you for reading and hope you're feeling better after surgery.
