Wintering

Now winter winds
Send me back inside
Restful reflection begins
Though the house
May keep me warm
A blizzard stirs within

Blinding whiteout
Buried in drifts
Bereft of proper gear
I trudge along
My psyche strong
At least another year

Snows will melt
But I remain
Encased in icy shell
Until the spring rains
Of my soul
Arrive to fill the well

I am flattered as always. I wasn’t sure about this one. It’s a different pattern. As a rock musician of almost 30 years I really get locked into the pattern of 4 or 8. Patterns with 3 or 6 are really common too and that would be like a waltz…1-2-3, 1-2-3.

I’m really glad to have found my way here and it’s worth noting the improvement in my mental health and stability I’ve achieved with not just the writing but the validation and criticism. What a precious gift you all are. I learn something here everyday. Every. Single. Day. I’ve collaborated on epic poems in workshops. I’ve collaborated on 5 songs now and I plan to release all of them. I’m gonna get to that artwork Cat, I promise. Lol. I treasure my interactions here and the connections I’ve made and the compositional inspiration both poetic and musical. Like half an album. Pretty good. You should all be extremely proud of your skills and humanity. I’m proud of you.
