Words are Power
Words can be a doorway to somewhere you don’t know,
Words can be an invitation to a place you’ve been longing to go,
Words can comfort a breaking fragile heart,
Words can be cruel shattering your world, blowing it apart,
Words can be as subtle as crystal clear water cleansing a tired spent body,
Words can be special bringing hopes and dreams in a sumptuous soliloquy,
Words can be something or nothing at all,
Words can be graffiti sprayed across a newly painted pristine wall,
Words can be deceitful shoved down your throat full of hate,
Words can be a sincere apology just for being late,
Words can be believed by a small fragile vulnerable child,
Words can be terrifying making your toes curl, your mind wild,
Words can be signed to someone who cannot hear,
Words can be braille felt by sensitive fingers sweeping across raised bumps prominent and clear,
Words can be in a song written just for you,
Words can be revolutionary bringing change, spoken by iconic people inspiring and true,
Words can be the first words a baby utters,
Words can be the last words from your death bed you mutter,
Words can be a collection of poetry, books and stories in the million notebooks you hoard,
Words can be in the form of a signature sealing your fate bringing discord,
Words can be written which is mightier than the sword, or so they say,
Words can be in a text telling you you’re loved making your day,
Whatever words you choose, choose them mindfully think them through,
Words are power, they have an everlasting affect on people their whole life through.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The poem explores the multifaceted influence of language, employing a series of parallel constructions to illustrate the diverse ways words can impact individuals and society. The structure relies on anaphora, with the repeated phrase “Words can be…” establishing a rhythmic consistency and emphasizing the central thesis.
The poem’s strength lies in its catalog-like approach, which allows for a broad survey of contexts—comfort, cruelty, art, communication, and legacy. This technique effectively demonstrates the ubiquity and versatility of language. The inclusion of non-verbal forms of communication (sign language, braille) broadens the scope and adds nuance.
However, the poem’s reliance on enumeration leads to a lack of progression or escalation; the lines function more as a list than as a narrative or argument that builds toward a climax. The absence of figurative language beyond basic similes and metaphors (“as subtle as crystal clear water,” “mightier than the sword”) limits the poem’s imaginative reach. The imagery could be more vivid or surprising to sustain reader engagement.
Several lines are weakened by redundancy or imprecise language. For example, “Words can be something or nothing at all” is abstract and does not advance the poem’s exploration. The phrase “everlasting affect” contains a usage error; “effect” is the correct noun form.
The poem’s conclusion attempts to offer a moral, but the imperative “choose them mindfully think them through” is somewhat didactic and could be more effective if shown through imagery or implication rather than direct instruction.
Overall, the poem would benefit from greater concision, a clearer sense of movement, and more inventive language. Consider focusing on fewer examples and developing them in more depth, or introducing a narrative thread or personal perspective to provide cohesion and emotional resonance.
