words with blades
Sticks and stones won't break my bones,
But words can pierce my skin like thrones,
Leaving wounds that never fade,
Etched into my soul, unafraid.
Those harsh words that rolled off your tongue,
Cut me deep,
yet you acted as if nothing was wrong,
But they left scars that remain,
And the pain lingers like a haunting refrain.
You called me fat, then too skinny,
A bitch, then too nice, it was all so flimsy,
A whore, then impossible, it was all so cruel,
Too much or not enough, it was all so brutal.
You made me believe that what you said was true,
That I was broken and couldn't be fixed, feeling so blue,
I hated my body, my mind, my very being,
It seemed that I was beyond redeeming.
Those words gave me a stomach ake,
I felt so fake, I didn't feel real,
just numb and dead inside.
I ate less, yet it wasn't enough,
I worked out, yet it was never tough,
I let you kiss me, but nothing more,
I was mean, but nice enough,
I became lazy, but not too much,
But you still complained and kept me in the clutch.
I realized I'll never be enough for you,
But that's okay.
for I have found my truth,
I now look at my body with love and affection,
From every curve to every imperfection.
I'm nice to everyone, but stand up for what is right
For I am perfect, flaws and all, without a permit,
It's not my body, thoughts, or personality that need to be changed,
But yet your mind and silly game.
I finally feel alive.

The below is a computer generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:
The poem "words with blades" is a powerful and poignant exploration of the lasting impact of hurtful words. The use of vivid imagery, such as "words can pierce my skin like thorns" and "etched into my soul," effectively conveys the emotional pain caused by verbal abuse. The repetition of the phrase "it was all so" emphasizes the cruel and arbitrary nature of the insults. The speaker's journey towards self-acceptance and self-love is inspiring, and the final lines of the poem are particularly uplifting.
However, there is one suggested line edit that could improve the poem's flow and clarity. In the line "I'm nice to everyone, but stand up for what is right," the word "but" could be replaced with "and" to better connect the two ideas. This would result in the revised line: "I'm nice to everyone and stand up for what is right." Overall, "words with blades" is a powerful and well-crafted poem that tackles an important topic with sensitivity and insight.
