Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (imagery poem)

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe,—
Sailed on a river of crystal light
Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three.
"We have come to fish for the herring-fish
That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we,"
Said Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

The old moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe;
And the wind that sped them all night long
Ruffled the waves of dew;
The little stars were the herring-fish
That lived in the beautiful sea.
"Now cast your nets wherever you wish,—
Never afraid are we!"
So cried the stars to the fishermen three,
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam,—
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
Bringing the fishermen home:
'Twas all so pretty a sail, it seemed
As if it could not be;
And some folk thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea;
But I shall name you the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one's trundle-bed;
So shut your eyes while Mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:—
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

Wonderful indeed

I enjoyed both the rich imagery as well as the tale. I 'm sure this will give the one who is going to strip it a very hard time.
Thanks for sharing this dear Rhiannon.

Hi Rhia

I've heard references to and snippets of this poem all my life but this is the first time I've ever seen the whole thing. Who says workshops aren't useful? lol. This should work very well........stan

Rhia, Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (imagery poem)

I cant at the moment put this on stream as a poem for the workshop, but will do so ASAP..

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod

Listen my child I will sing to you
Of tired eyes that sleep will come soon
Picture a wooden shoe boat sailing
Of a place to go, where you can dream

We will talk of fishing, a quite game
In the moonlight on an ocean tame
Know that fish of colours anew,
These will bring sleep to you

“We will strew our nets of silver and gold,”
Soft words by Wynken, Blinken and Nod
So it was told.

Dream on child as breezes moves us on
The moon is laughing its glow a song
Stars seemed to be silver fish for you and me

“Cast your dream nets in this tranquil sea.”
As if stars called to the fishermen three,
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod you see,
Turning for home in their wooden shoe boat
A journey that didn’t seem true.

Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
Nod is a little head, the sail boat a trundle bed
So close your eyes while our Mother sings
You will see such wonderful things.
In a sea of perfect dreams..

Why have you done this poem? Stan assigned it to me. Twice, so I have no idea why you've done it.

I think that I didn't strip enough imagery, but I think this will do for now if there is a need I will edit more,
Take care young Lady,
As always, Ian. xx

Apologies, Stan appears to have mixed up Rhia and Rula and asked us both to do the same poem. Looking through the way Stan has broken the groups down, Rhia is in my quartet and Rula in yours.
Heyho.

I think

It will be easier to let your work on stripping down stand Ian.
You finished, I haven't.
Let yours stand, particularly as you're going away.
I'll do Rula's.

Thank you very much as I would not have had enough time to start another strip, feels like a joint in Soho, with so much stripping going on.
Take care and love to all,
Yours, Ian..xx
