Yule Tree

No chill of winter, sunny but cool
Gather a tree, there’s a week until Yule
Christmas is fine but it’s just not my thing
This dark pagan blood is what makes my heart sing

It stands in it’s corner, stiff evergreen
Wards off the spirits and sickness not seen
Enticed by the vapors of soil and sap
Black spirits distance themselves from this trap

The magick of olde, got lost in the fray
The rush and the clatter of this modern day
The lights and the twinkling rainbow array
Casting strong spells to keep hexes at bay

Arboreal talisman around ye we stand
Holding each other’s hearts in our hands
Be our protection until vernal rains
Shield us from needless emotional pains

Paganism...

at its best, I love this one! It's interesting that Christianity has absorbed so many different Pagan holidays to become the dominate religion. I have read about the Easter Bunny and St. Nicholas that have become holidays to Christians by incorporating these Pagan celebrations into Christian values. So much for Christianity standing on its own! Your rhyme and rhythm are very good and the theme interesting to say the least. An excellent write for the season. I don't see a thing to change. ~ Geez.

Yule Tree

Hi, Tim,
This poem is the warmth of the season. All wonderful, but the final stanza is my favorite - aboreal talisman. How lovely. I hope you and yours enjoy it all season long.

Enjoyable

..rhythm and rhyme in this refreshing reminder of the good old pagan days, where imagination sparked the most wonderful things revered in the modern age!

dear Tim,

great work, here. I applaud your efforts in honoring the Yule tree and holiday. 12/25 to 1/5: Yule--Old Anglo-Teutonic festival honoring God Freyr, Goddess Freyja, and God Balder. information found here (https://wheeloftheyear.com/2022/pagan.htm)

I noticed your use of the word Magic's spelling: magick. I won't give into being pushed into the new spelling... they have stolen our Holidays with the invention of placing their holidays and stories on top of ours. haven't they stolen enough from us? on this, I refuse to budge! I'm a stubborn old Bag/witch and I will not allow them to take anymore! sorry for the rant. your poem is lovely.
