There's no way out of here!

Beneath a moon of billowed white,
we made our way forth on a sacred night.
To find the truth, 'twas just in sight,
but found its words to be quite trite
and somewhat over bearing.
Then somewhere in the chaos
our wisdom bore a futile sound
And as the truth would come unwound
we kneeled before the maker.
Despite the authors majesty
we had not hope nor could we see
the meaning for our breathing.
For time and time again we see
'twas all the same for you and me
Time couldn’t add a single thing

INSTRUCTIONS LOST

INSTRUCTIONS LOST

When print is tiny, causing anguish
Or is written in a foreign language
And sometimes even in bad English
Clear meaning is hard to distinguish
Then instructions can be tossed

Is there a sequence one must obey
So hard to guess what it might say
One’s so tempted to throw it away
Fonts so miniscule, printed in grey
If only instructions were embossed

Tree Hugger...

When I awoke, I felt so bad
I went to hug my favorite tree
I thought about the fears I had
no one would fear, but me

"Too bad", I thought I heard it say
The bark, it scratched my face
I hugged it all the tighter
As my mind began to race

I'm losing it, I really am
"Too bad", I heard it say
Are my ears deciving me
Have I gone all the way?

"I will comfort you my friend
hold me close again."
Take me down the rabbit-hole
Take from me, my pain.

Broken Air Condition

We never had much more than each other
in the summer of 2016

Adventures on Saturday nights
Two wheels
Two helmets
Two hearts

Lazy Sunday mornings
Two cups of coffee
Two cigarettes burned
Two hands together

There wasn’t much to it
Just you and I,
and our broken air conditioner

Purporting Peace

Broken walls, empty halls, danger's an owl,
burning barrels hail with devil's anger.
Bright days as well as darkness howl and howl,
bang bang, am I ever deaf to the clangor?

No river_banks to walk along, no strolls,
Ninja's powered breaths burned the vacuumed wood.
Noisy sea_gulls once were, now fear the trolls,
nothing's left where ancient histories stood.

"Little Boy"

Such an innocent name.

We dropped a nine-thousand pound
atomic bomb, equal to twelve to fifteen
thousand tons of TNT onto a populated
city, destroying five square miles,
instantly obliterating

eighty

thousand

human beings...

whose shadows hysterically
held tight to the concrete,
blindly reaching out to reclaim
their missing beating hearts,
their warm blood, their untroubled thoughts
from just a few seconds earlier.

And three days later,

we did it all again.

A Trip To Yesterday

I wish I could
Walk into
A time machine
And arrive at the
last goodbye

I have a file cabinet
in my head
Filled with things
I never said

At night my mind
shows a marathon
Of memories that
Play until the sun
Open its eyes

You have
A lifetime
Seat in
my heart

I will always
Look up above
When my soul
Thinks of you

I will be okay
As long as you
Are holding me
In your prayers

A Poem, Rising

It begins with a gasp,
like the first time you see
a jeweled Indigo Bunting bathing
in the sun.
Brilliance.

It sings amid Parnassian hues,
fluttering about the garden,
absorbing the moments, the seconds
passing in time -

a fallen tear,
a dusty vase,
the shallow light in an empty room.

And there it scatters itself
like warm, welcoming effervescence,
its words falling onto waiting pages,

its poetic gems shining deeper,
then rising like wings into the bluest sky.
