Political Poisoning

Reason, was it exiled?
What about trust
in our leaders?
This can’t be Earth.
Was I abducted by
a lesser life form?

Someone asked, “Who
would you vote for?”
My answer is,
“Daffy Duck or
the Three Stooges.”

Is this what’s on the menu?
Then skip the main course.
Give me a doggy bag with
antacids and enough Advil
to stop headaches
for the next four years.

Your Whispered Name

I've been whispering your name under my breath.
Sometimes it's the only word I'll speak all day

I sound out every letter and exhale,
as if it were my last

I'll feel the vowels kiss my lips
and wish it were your fingertips

Maybe, one of these days,
I'll say it for the last time

Until then,
I'll take comfort in your whispered name

Simple Tail

I woke up this morning
angry at turtles, and parrots too.
They get so many years to be.

Who decided our dogs only get ten,
maybe fifteen brief years to be with us?

All that dog ever wanted was to be by our side,
the occasional extra treat and, of course,
his daily walk. All we really wanted
were a few more perfect days just like that.

As a mortal man of threescore and five years...

I bore witness and/or assimilated, gleaned,
and nursed implacable thirst for knowledge
courtesy reading factual narratives,
historical fiction, or biography
that since the advent of Homo sapiens
avast number of civilizations
and their discontents
(throve and languished)
their legacy peppered
with historical achievements
particularly military exploits
punctuated equilibrium
by false sense of security
under_scored with relatively
long periods of peace
concluding with convulsive denouement

THE MESSENGER!

The messenger holds the power
and possesses all the keys.
The keys to make things right or wrong,
throughout eternity.
We think we offer good advice
when we speak the things we feel,
but the truth rings out when we overstep
natural boundaries
We can't always control our words
they fall from lips too casually,
but if we'll listen with our hearts
the truth we just might see.
So engage each individual, with a listening ear
try to find their heart of hearts
their deepest darkest fear

Not Alone

I kidnapped time.
Tried being nice.
It wouldn’t
give me an hour
to hold those
that left too soon.

What would it cost him?
Sixty minutes, to
tell them a lifetime
of things I never said.

Hell, the world’s
mansions are not enough
to hide how I feel.

It’s like a bulldozer
rammed into my heart,
cut it into pieces.
Still, from up above,
someone held
me in their arms.

Encountered "On the Road"

A windy road that I did travel,
Away from my abode.
Yet as I encountered Jesus on that road,
I no longer felt alone.

A scary path, I tried to run,
I tried to hide.
Yet with no fear, I struggled on,
With Jesus by my side.

A bumpy ride, with hills and mountains,
All strength to be applied.
Yet with courage I strode on,
With Jesus by my side.

My Nightly Conversations

I often speak to myself at night
Hoping to seek some insight

Sometimes the answers are so clear
Others times I feel only fear

I pray very often in my sleep
Opening the secrets I so often keep

I question my actions, my fears and dreams
As I pass through life’s many streams

The conversations I have allow me to change
Permits me the chance to eliminate the strange

I stand to hold on to those I love
With all the help I get from above
