The Winter The Wolves Found You
In the clear purple skies
The prairie heaves, burdened by a bitter cold.
Some people are simply strangers
You pass by on the street
For every one there's a wolf that'll drag you down
Mournfully howling somewhere out in the snow
Echoing sorrowfully like some sad song.
Oh, to sit poised as a portrait, a remaining silhouette
Some people get left behind
Out where wolves ravage the mangled heart
I'm standing here again where they linger still.
Some people bring you up, throw you around,
Befriend a being just for the wolves
To clinch their teeth into the heart, rumors and lies
Like they faked it all along just to see you break
And life keeps spinning like a crazy ferris wheel
That doesn't always come down...
So what happens when you quit caring
About the things that once meant so much?
When the ones you love become only
Strangers you live with, people as distant as the
Saddened sounds shivering the snow...
Well, you died eight years ago
So when the snow starts drifting in again
Your ghost emerges like wolves from the
Black woods. I find myself sitting alone
Beneath a crescent moon shimmering crystalline ice.
So much has changed since that December...
Would you even know me for what this life
Has put me through...
The people we knew have gone separate ways
Often wonder if they've forgotten
Summer days in the vacant school parking lot
Chilly winter holidays in that coffee shop on main street
For I remember sitting at home every
Saturday night, singing along to songs I hated
Because they made me feel better
Instead of fulfilling the hatred that an angry body craves
Spread out on the basement floor
Radio as loud as it would go
To drown out the screaming upstairs, the awful
Painful howls making me shudder and tremble
All I could do was keep missing you...
And the years went by
Seasons merging, wolves drifting beneath
Crystal crescent moons, across empty prairies
Looking back I see just what you mean to me
You were never a stranger, but the one
Riding the crazy ferris wheel even when it got
Dark and scary, when people were only strangers
Turning away, when wolves lurked
Somewhere out in the snow, mournfully howling
Echoing sorrowfully like some sad song.
Oh, to sit poised as a portrait, a remaining silhouette
Some people get left behind
And sitting alone each night I remember
The winter the wolves found you.
